January Changes - Deal Reaction

Well, GSN shakes up the schedule on Monday.

First, at noon, Shop Til You Drop goes bye-bye. Lingo with Chuck Woolery takes that spot. It will be season 5. With it being a double run, dare I hope to see the Season 2 episodes with just Chuck?

At 3:00pm, Chain Reaction drops off the schedule completely. Replacing it is Deal or No Deal with Howie Mandel, the NBC version.

Karn Feud disappears from weekdays. Shop Til You Drop gains another hour at 5:00pm.

My thoughts. Interesting to see Shop Til You Drop expand in the afternoon. 2 hours seems a little much though. Then again it does lose the noon slot. Good to see Lingo and Deal or No Deal back. Both good shows. Sad to see Chain Reaction go. It's been doing good numbers for the network. Oh well, it's be back soon. Starts Monday January 20th

What Works? Somebody tell me

Well, another week of GSN ratings has come in. For the week of June 11-17, GSN averaged 347K/265K in primetime/total day ratings. That's awesome. It ranked 39 in both areas based on other networks ratings. That's actually pretty good. Harvey Feud is the thank for this. There's a reason it gets multiple slots during the week. Well, of course people (sometimes myself) like to speculate, and chat. Well, here's some of this from the GSN board.

Poster #1: Hopefully GSN won't take the approach this Fall of airing The Newlywed Game and The $100,000 Pyramid after 8pm. They are going to do the best at 6 and 6:30pm, so that's something to think about for the Fall.

Poster #2 replied:  Why would they do best at 6 & 6:30PM? New originals have aired at 7PM or 8PM and have done just fine. If Harvey keeps those numbers up at 6PM, I'm sure they won't be replacing him in that hour.

Poster #1 returns and says:  The Newlywed Game and Baggage were killed there last Fall because that's when J!/WOF air on most affiliates. Most people would rather watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Poster #3 replies:  It's always Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune huh? Because they air at 7pm they kill GSN's ratings? Let me tell you something, when Deal or No Deal was new and airing at 7pm on GSN years ago, it did quite well if I recall. That's not a GSN original, but it's just an example.

 Not to mention not everyone lives on the east coast. (For me, WOF and J! always come on at 10:00pm EST yeah I'm really far on the west coast), so around here, that excuse doesn't work. It's 4:00PM over here when that happens.

Poster #1: It's almost better if GSN didn't air anything except a new acquisition that would do well in the 7pm hour, maybe Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (half hour)

 Considering the fact Meredith bombed last time, I wouldn't expect to see her back. I can't explain why 7:00pm gets bad ratings (WOF/J! may be part of the problem).

You know thinking back, when Lingo with Chuck debuted with Shandi, they aired new episodes at 7:30pm with a previous season repeat at 7:00pm. Can't see why that wouldn't work, also considering Lingo had various lead-ins when it was there.

However, I don't see GSN moving Harvey out of the 6:00pm slot for awhile.

Another Night of Surveys

Well, I once said (or if I didn't, I had a feeling) that Steve Harvey's Family Feud would turn up on GSN before September 2012. Well, I'm Right!!! This is amazing. On March 28th, 2012, at 7:00pm, GSN will air 5 hours of Steve Harvey's Family Feud replacing Baggage. Baggage has really hit some rought times on GSN with ratings, so this is no surprise. Hey, a new season started today.

I have a feeling Harvey will do well. He has dramtically boosted the first run Syndicated ratings, and Karn and O'Hurley are GSN Feud winners. I personally can't wait, of course, there are complaints. Well, GSN, you did something great, I'm impressed. It starts March 28th, at 7:00pm.

Also, another note, The Power of 10 disappears from the weekend schedule during that week as well. Another Deal or No Deal episode replaces it.

More GSN Ratings, and Some More Notes

All rights, let's look at some more GSN ratings folks. The February 6-12 ratings are in. Well, I saw some interesting numbers all around. There were a few 500K's, and 400K's. That was actually a pretty darn good week if you ask me. Here are some observations I'd like to point out:

• Maybe block scheduling is good. Family Feud pulls big numbers on Monday Night.
• 5th Grader did decent in pretty much all slots. Hey, this show works.
• DWTS pulls OK numbers on Saturday nights. Let's forget about the other slots.
• Perry's Card Sharks and The $100,000 Pyramid are the greatest combination in mornings. 252K in the 10:00am hour. Match Game 74 at 11:30am did OK, but Eubanks in daytime just doesn't work. Try Pyramid or something else.
Wondering how the block scheduling stuff did? Here is the averages:

Feud Mondays - 442K
Newlywed Game - 332K
Baggage Wednesdays - 254K
Deal Thursdays - 346K
Dancing Fridays - 217K (second set 128K)
Dancing Saturdays - 241K
5th Grader Sundays - 462K     

Feud, Newlywed Game, and Deal or No Deal rock latenights. While Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader reigns majestic over Sunday nights. Baggage has lost some steam apparently, not good IMO. I like this show. There are rumors it's going into syndication.

Dancing averaged 241K on Saturday nights. Not totally bad, but not good like on Monday night. But GSN can live with those numbers. Fridays (which I will speak about later) averaged 217K for the first set, and 128K for the second set (11:00am-4:00am). Not great, but it will probably do for now.


Also, you may have noticed that I deleted the post about The $100,000 Pyramid on Friday nights. It turns out that is not happening. They're going back with what the originally planned on showing, so that post does not need to be there. That's why the post is gone.

Even More Changes

Well, with Dancing With the Stars premiering tonight, there are more changes to the schedule, beginning this next week, in addition to the changes announced last month.

Match Game loses its 11:00am slot. Eubanks Card Sharks will rejoin the daytime lineup and take over that spot. That will begin at episode #1 from January 1986. Match Game 74 will remain at 11:30, and will still air in the 8:00am hour. Seems odd having Perry at 10:00am, Pyramid at 10:30am, then Eubanks at 11:00am. Seems weird but oh well. Would much rather see Match Game for the 468th time, but at least this will shut up the people on the message boards who complain about rerun abuse. Yeah, I'm sure you'll be happier to see the shows gone.

And another changes happens. Syndicated Deal or No Deal bites the dust. Repalcing it? The Bill Engvall version of Lingo. And same with Card Sharks, Engvall at 2:30pm, Whammy! at 3:00pm, and Woolery at 3:30pm. Seems weird, but it might work. That's just Monday-Thursday. Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader will still get the Friday afternoon slot. This is a good change. I really hate the Syndie version of the show, only 2 models (and there were hotter ones IMHO), half the prize (yes it was Syndication) and just felt too rushed. I don't like it slow, but if you go too fast, it ruins it. And the gimmicks on the NBC version didn't bother me, in fact, I liked them. I love the NBC version, but the Syndie wasn't that great. It even had suckish ratings. Engvall should do much better.

Deal or Are You Smarter Than a Feud

Cheesey title. Oh well, looks like GSN has their marathons chosen for Thanksgiving weekend. On Thanksgiving day from 8am-12am is Deal or No Deal. 16 hours. Wow. On Black Friday from 8am-7pm is Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader. On Saturday 26th, From 9am-12am, 15 hours of Karn and O'Hurley Family Feud. Want to see more Feud, tune in Sunday the 27th from 9am-7pm for Family Feud with Richard Dawson. Sounds OK to me, I will tune in here for some episodes.

Too Old For Primetime

As of this last Monday, Regis' Who Wants To Be a Millionaire was removed from the primetime lineup. In all honesty the ratings weren't that great. Engvall did so much better there. It was nice to see something different for a change of pace, but in reality, the remainder of the GSN audience didn't. Oh well, maybe Engvall could do the numbers again there right? No. The not-so-better Deal or No Deal that followed Regis at 9:00pm gets the 8:00pm slot. Why I didn't agree with this. Didn't we just get out of that Howie multiple times a day era on GSN? I guess not. It was nice just having a 2-3 a day. 4 is way too much. His numbers weren't that great either. Sherri did better in that slot. While it was nice to see some non Originals in primetime, it just doesn't work. Those people who love the dirty raunchy stuff and care about people's sex lives are the hugest audiences for the network. The ratings showed it. Of course, Karn's primetime episodes are from 2003-2004 which is pretty old, but newer episodes of Feud do real well for GSN. Oh well, hope they give it more weekend exposure in the place of poker. Yeah the demos are amazing, but the ratings stink. Time for it to go. Good thing it's out of prime time.

Well, last time I went camping for a week earlier this month and Jeopardy! returns to GSN. I go to that same place for a few days and see another good change. This schedule change is full of things I thought would never happen. Here they are

My thoughts;

• Interesting to see Engvall get cutback to 1-a-day. Also interesting to see Sherri out of primetime.
• Improv getting cut is no surprise. Baggage getting a 4-a-day is interesting too.
• Whammy! Back in afternoons is a pleasant surprise.
• Regis in Primetime is Awesome!!! Unexpected buy great. Howie is in Primetime too. Primetime seems perfect!
• Pyramid in Latenights is also good. Didn't expect to see it again, especially the hour. Nice!!

Maybe weekends will get some changes.

The PDF's were updated. $100,000 Pyramid will start at episode #399, which aired in October 1987.

O'Hurley will air Saturdays at 4:00pm instead of Sherriwed. Love Triangle remains

I'll Take GSN Schedule Changes for $1,000 Alex

Just got back from camping for a week. Good times. Now to this thing which is new to me. Seems as if July was a barren month for schedule changes. So we're due for another one. Right? Correct. Apparently having started today, Match Game is gone off the weekend schedule at 9am. Oh well, it was early 75 so it's not a big loss. Taking its place. Engvall Lingo, Improv, Tattletales? Nope. Jeopardy! will take its place. Nice, even if it is the 2005-2006 season, who cares? If you enjoy Jeopardy! than tune in Weekend mornings.

Baggage gets 5:30pm replacing Inaba. Syndie Deal or No Deal gets 6:00pm.

Also Karn Feud will air at 8:00pm and O'Hurley at 9:00pm on Saturdays. Almost out Improv.

And Deal or No Deal gets weekdays at 5:00pm. Interesting. I like these changes.

Half as Much

Hello all. Today is my younger brother's birthday. Happy Birthday Abe!

But in all seriousness, there is a schedule change. Improv-A-Ganza leaves Saturday afternoons at 2:00pm. In its place is Syndicated Deal or No Deal. That's it. No other changes. Never cared for it much, but it could be good to see again. Starts Saturday July 23.
