End of an Era

How about a non game show post for the first time in awhile. One of my favorite bands, The Church will soon be coming out with a new album. Unfortunately, Marty Willson Piper will not be present. This article announces that Marty has been replaced with Ian Haug of Powderfinger. As Steve Kilbey has said "If you can't dig it, I'm sorry. This is my f*#king band after all and has existed at times without Peter, and in the beginning without Marty, and for times in between when he went AWOL."

Marty was not available, and has been doing some of his own work.

I had the opportunity to meet Marty in February 2011 in Seattle when they performed their tour there. He seemed like a nice fellow. But time moves on and things change. I personally will miss Marty. He's contributed a lot to this band, and is a great musician. But the band will move on. I for one also welcome Ian Haug. Never heard of him or his work, but it will be interesting to see how he does with the band. It's a new addition that I find welcome. I have no disrespect to Marty and wish him well in the future. Kinda sucks that they'll probably never perform together again. Well, let's see how they do with this new album.

On the Way to Paradise

I love the Australlian band The Church. Pretty much every member (except their very first drummer, and the drummer that came after Ploog and before Powles) are awesome and have contributed a lot to the band. One of my favorite is Peter Koppes. One of the guitar players, that was the lead for the first couple albums before Marty began gaining more popularity. Did songs such as A New Season, Transient, As You Will, Never Before and others for the band. He also did some of his other work too that was pretty good. Unfortunatley after the band hit some hard times in the early 90's he left. He returned in 1998 as a guitar player. Since then, the band has had a good stable awesome lineup of band members. He is a really good guitar player, and I love As You Will a lot. Listen to it sometime. Here's the link to that song.

Last Week's Online Pick of The Week (9/4): Almost With You

 I've been busy recently, and I finally have some time to blog, so I'll catch myself up to date on these Online Picks of the Week. Well, here we go, I guess....

*Deep Breath*

I'm a big fan of the Australian rock band, The Church. I'm not a very big fan of their pre-1983 stuff, but there were a couple of good songs from that era such as Too Fast For You. Well this one is another one that was released early in 1982 titled Almost With You. This is one of my favorite things. This video is a little higher (pitch-wise) than the original, which is fine with me. It's a good song from their 1982 album The Blurred Crusade. The band realeased a video of their early work, and this one made it in a different music video (I think, I'll check later), and made it onto the album Hindsight. Overall good song with a great guitar solo in the middle. They've played this one live several times, and has been sung on several of Steve Kilbey's tours. As I said good song. Enjoy. Don't Believe it When They Say it's Over

I am a big fan of the Australian rock band The Church. The band started in 1980. This was one of their first songs, and it's one of my favorites. Too Fast For You. That was a great song IMO. Really great song, well written out. However Kilbey really didn't care for it that much. Oh well, I guess he's his biggest critic. I however enjoyed it. Also funny to see Richard Ploog jump over the drums. Enjoy

Online Pick of the Week (8/14) - Tear it All Away

Love, Love Love The Church. One of the best bands ever. Here is a hit song from their debut album, Of Skins and Heart. Steve really liked this song. I like it too, the drums guitar, and bass, everything fell into place quite well. Glad they made a video out of it. Also loved Marty's red jacket. Enjoy Tear it All Away my online pick of the week.
