Online Pick of the Week (7/31) - Sovien Toi

I finally have some free time today. I'm going camping for a week and just did some last minute packing. However I just found this song, that was sung in church today. Very beautiful peace of music, sung to the tune of Drovak's New World Symphony. This is not what I saw though, just a recording from last year somewhere else by Jonathan Mahoney.

Sovien Toi my online pick of the week.

Here are the words, hope you can read French:
Souviens-toi, mon enfant
Souviens-toi, mon enfant: Tes parents divins

Can't understand, here it is in English

Remember, My Child
Remember, my child : not long ago,
your divine parents held you in their arms.
Today you are here, marvelously present.
Your gaze still shines with the reflection of heaven.
Talk to me, my child, about that blessed place,
because for you the veil is still thin.

Remember, my child, the forests, the cities.
Can we down here imagine them?
And the night sky, is it rosy or gray?
Is the sun waiting for snow or rain?
Describe to me, my child, the color of the meadows
and the birdsongs of a forgotten world.

Remember, my child: at the dawn of time,
we were friends playing in the wind.
Then one day in joy we chose to accept
the Lord’s grand plan of life.
That night, my child, we promised through love,
and through faith, to be reunited.

It was a hit, that ended up being a miss

I'm not a big fan of Barry/Enright Game shows. But one I really liked was Break the Bank. Break the Bank debuted on April 12, 1976 on ABC with Tom Kennedy as host. The show featured 9 celebrities (sounds familiar doesn't it), and featured different boxes of money. 3 $100, $200, and $300 boxes. It also had 5 money bags, and a wild card that could be used for anything. And 5 blanks. Get 3 of a kind and you win the game. Get 3 money bags and you Break the Bank. You had to answer questions. 2 celebrities gbe you answers, and you had to determine which celebrity was right, and which celebrity was speaking crap. That's how the game was played. It was the 2n highest rated daytime game show, ahead of The $20,000 Pyramid, and behind Match Game '76. Unfortantley it was the sacrificial lamb for an expanding soap opera and ended its run on July 23, 1976.

But in September 1976, Break the Bank returned to the airwaves with Jack Barry as host. Same rules except the boxes were $100, $300, and $500, and a $10,000 prize package as the "bank." This version included a bonus round, with different money cards. The player called on a celebrity and they revealed a money value. They had to hit $2,000 without hitting a bust card, and they won $5,000.

I enjoyed this show. Tom was the best. Jack was OK, but he never looked comfortable on camera. Although I did enjoy the shades. This should've lasted longer. It aired on GSN from October 1997-April 1998 during the dark period, and hasn't been seen since.

Online Pick of the Week (7/24) - Tattletales

Hello. Yesterday my family was up, so I celebrated good times with them. So for today I present a favorite game show episode. Tattletales was hosted by Bert Convy. But not this episode. This episode is hosted by Gene Rayburn on then Match Game 74 fame. It features Bert & Anne Convy, Harvey & Donna Korman, and Roger Perry & Jo Anne Worley. Which audience section will win, an how much?

Online Pick of the Week (7/17) - Card Sharks The Terrible Three's

For this week, we look at a different era of Perry's Card Sharks. The summer of 1980.

This moment is an interesting one. The contestant really bombs in the money cards. He pulls up all 4 3's in a row. He got $200 on thy money cards run. Good thing a few months later they changed the rules which carried to the 1980's versions.

Enjoy. Card Sharks My online pick of the week.

Half as Much

Hello all. Today is my younger brother's birthday. Happy Birthday Abe!

But in all seriousness, there is a schedule change. Improv-A-Ganza leaves Saturday afternoons at 2:00pm. In its place is Syndicated Deal or No Deal. That's it. No other changes. Never cared for it much, but it could be good to see again. Starts Saturday July 23.

More Sherri

Nothing but a small schedule change taking place later today. 1 vs. 100 (Inaba) is out of primetime. Taking its place is The Newlywed Game. Well, it beats Love Trainwreck, I mean Love Triangle. Inaba wasn't the best, but who knows, this could get Primetime back up to date on ratings to a January/February basis.

Back in Time

I'm stoked. Just read on Buzzerblog about some interesting development that TeenNick is doing. The 90's Are All That will be coming on July 25th at 12am ET. The block will feature shows such as All That, Kenan & Kel Legends of the Hidden Temple and more. I'm thrilled, because I grew up on most of those shows. Can't wait. Stay tuned.

35 Years of Feudin

Today is a special day. Today marks the 35th anniversary of Family Feud.

Family Feud debuted on July 12, 1976 on ABC with Match Game panelist Richard Dawson. The show was a survey thing that you had to guess which was the most popular answer.

The show went Syndicated in 1977.

The answers had point values. You had to reach 200 points to win the game. Onetime it increased to 300 in 1979, and 400 in 1984.

The bonus round was 5 questions, answering them, accumulating 200 points, with 2 people, and getting the prize

The show ended in 1985.

It was resurrected in July 1988 with Ray Combs as host. In 1992 the Bullseye Round was introduced, which could increase your potential winnings.

Ratings were down the toilet, and Richard Dawson returned in 1994. This version ended in 1995.

It returned in 1999 with Louie Anderson. In 2002 he was replaced by Richard Karn. In 2003 it returned back to original gameplay with the 300 point format, instead of whoever has the most. In 2006, Karn was replaced by John O'Hurley. In 2009 the Bullseye round was brought back, for one season. In 2010, O'Hurley was replaces by Steve Harvey. The ratings have increases for Harvey's version.

My Feud Host/Era Ratings

1. Early Dawson (Full of energy, and awesome)
2. O'Hurley (Another Good Host, and handled it well)
3. Harvey (Funny, takes advantage of the moment, and is a good host)
4. Karn (2003-2006) Full of energy, gameplay normal, and fun.
5. Later Dawson (1982-1985, 1994-1995, Slowed down, but still OK)
6. Combs (Hosting style was awful. Didn't like him much, no because of his death)
7. Anderson/Karn (1999-2003, slow, hosts were bad, Karn was just getting into in)
8. Roker (Didn't like the Celebrity ediion)

All hosts are with us still. Except Ray who killed himself in June 1996

Happy 35th Feud.

You're Such a Potsie

Just watched some Happy Days last night. And this morning I pulled out a Match Game 74 tape and it was on an episode with Anson Williams.

Anson is best known for his role as Warren Weber, better known as Potsie. He was with the show from the beginning. At first he was the best buddy of Richie Cunningham played by Ron Howard. They did everything together. In the second season Ralph Maplph (played by Donny Most) who was a kewl guy in the first two seasons, was seen with them, an whimped out over time. Those 3 firmed a band (with 3 drummers) and Performed at Arnold's Drive in.

In 1980 during the 8th season, Richie and Ralph left the series, and Potsie stayed, but appeared less and less. In 1983, Richie and Ralph returned for one episode. It was nice to see the gang together again. He did not appear in the finale.

I've never seen him on other TV series, but he did 2 weeks of Match Gane in 1974 and 1977. Anson is still with us to this day.

A Good Cook

Game show celebrities are interesting. One of the bests was Nathan Cook. Nathan is best known for his role as Billy Griffin the security guard on the TV show Hotel. I've never seen it, so I wouldn't know, but I heard he was good. But today, we see Nathan on game shows. He appeared on The $25,000 Pyramid, Body Language, Super Password, and The $100,000 Pyramid. From what I've seen, he was an excellent player. He's funny, and know how to play the game well. He was awesome.

Unfortanatley he shared something in common with me. An allergy to penicillin. He died of an allergic reaction in June 1988 at the young age of 38. Even though he is long gone and left us at a young age, we still se him on reruns on GSN. Come on GSN, brig back The $100,000 Pyramid. Please???

Online Pick of the Week (7/3) - Password Plus

For this week, I have for you Password Plus. This is a very special episode.

Allen Ludden was hospitalized in the Spring of 1980 and Bill Cullen subbed for him. Allen thought Bill was having too much fun and returned.

See his return with Susan Richardson and Bill Cullen.

Now Very Scarce

Just got back from a special week of camp and I also celebrated my birthday. My present? Pretty much all of the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy episodes on YouTube were removed. That sucks. So many great episodes of both shows. That's very disappointing. A few episodes are still up, but for how much longer.

UPDATE: a group of 1988-1989 episodes were just removed.

UPDATE: All of gamehowluvr86's WoF episodes are gone too.
